Definition

A breakout occurs when price moves decisively beyond a support or resistance level, often with increased volume. Breakouts can signal the start of new trends or continuation of existing trends.

Example

If EUR/USD breaks above resistance at 1.1200 with strong momentum, it might signal a bullish breakout toward 1.1300.
